Q: (18848)

Dear CAIG,

Please advise the correct product(s) for cleaning volume potentiometers associated with small vintage and currently produced portable radios. Most of these potentiometers operate erratically, resulting in poor volume and control. I would prefer a product that would not require me to remove the device from the circuit board, and not require the device to be disassembled.

Thank you,
Bob

Hello Dr. DeoxIT,

Just a quick update about your recommendation of DeoxIT D-Series spray, P/N D100S-2.
It restored the volume control to perfect operation in all of the radios where your product was used. Couldn’t have wished for a better outcome.

Thanks for your advice.

A:

Hello Bob,

For vintage equipment, we do not recommend ANY product with solvents. Vintage/old equipment the parts may have started to become deteriorated and solvents could make things worse.

We would recommend our DeoxIT® D-Series 100% spray, Part No. D100S-2. Has no solvents. Just propellant and 100% DeoxIT®.
Hopefully, you have access somewhere to get the extension tube into the pots to apply the DeoxIT®.

Good luck!
