What do I use on RCA plus and sockets with ferrous and non-ferrous metals?

Q: (18522)

Hello.

I have DeoxIT D100L-2C & DeoxIT Gold G100L-2C, 100% 2ml tubes. In some equipment it is impossible to understand if the metal part inside of a female RCA plug is ferrous or non-ferrous – unfortunately it is not the same metal as the outside. Here is my question: assuming that the RCA is clean and has either no oxidation or slight oxidation and without knowing if it is ferrous or non-ferrous, which of the two products I have should I use?

Best regards,
Christos

PCB card edge connectors are problematic, especially low level signals.

Q:

Dear Caig Rep,

We support industrial customer that has some equipment that utilizes PCB card edge connectors. Some of these connectors are gold plated and have sound electrical connections. Unfortunately, some of the connector appear to have a tin plating. Some of those connections are proving to be problematic, especially with the low level signals. We have been remove the devices cleaning the card edges with rough paper cloths (producing gray spots on the paper) and reinstalling.

Could you please make a recommendation as to the most appropriate product to help mitigate this problem?

Thank you,
Steven Chmarney

Which DeoxIT product for a 1960 rebuild and tube sockets?

Q: (18465)

I am restoring a 1960’s amplifier and want to use the DeoxIT D-Series. Should I apply before or after the rebuild?

Also, which DeoxIT product do you recommend for new builds on tube sockets, etc.?

Thank you,

Brad

How do I know if the DeoxIT product is 5% or 100%?

Q: (18463)

I’m trying to understand your product part numbers.  How do I know the product is 5% or 100%. And how much cleaning does each product do?

I am amazed at the DeoxIT products – so I had to test!

Q: (18425)

I have used DeoxIT® and DeoxIT® GOLD in most of their available forms on vintage audio equipment by McIntosh Laboratories and Marantz. It does an outstanding job of removing oxidation, and has made a noticeable improvement in the sound quality of components.

The instruments sound like they are emerging from a “blacker” background. The transients, speed, attack and decay, transparency, and smoothness of the musical notes are all noticeably enhanced. Music sounds more three-dimensional, as though you could “step right through it.”

I used DeoxIT® contact cleaner on an arcing power switch on an old Kenwood receiver, and it completely eliminated the problem. This also happened when I applied it to an arcing light switch.

I am amazed at how these products are so non-conductive yet enhance conductivity. I did my own test with an old 16 volt (amperage unknown) power transformer from a Lionel Train set, and I connected one wire to a small light bulb (like that of a flashlight).

When the connected lead of the light was set in DeoxIT® and the other wire from the transformer was immersed adjacently to it, the bulb would not light up–no matter how close the wire was, until it was directly touching the metal. The transformer had multiple output power settings/taps, and this test was done with the transformer set to maximum output.

I was curious to see how well DeoxIT® would protect against corrosion, so I applied it to the terminals of my car battery in the fall (I lived in a harsh fall/winter environment near Canada, by Lake Superior). Normally the terminals oxidized in as little as 2 months after installing a new battery, but after cleaning them with DeoxIT®, I went through fall, a harsh, wet, slushy, salty (from roads) winter, spring, and finally summer—and there was NO corrosion on the battery terminals from the sulfuric acid vapors!

Excellent products, I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. I have used Chemtronics Kontact Restorer, Blue Foam with “mini-scrubbers”, LPS1 greaseless lubricant — CAIG products are far superior, and I would never go back to anything else.

When would I use the cans with the Perfect-Straw versus the LMH cans?

Q: (18420)

Hello CAIG,

I’ve used both the D5S-6 and D5S-6-LMH products and both work well.  What is the difference and when would I use each?

Thanks,
Greg

New Perfect-Straw, having leaking problems

Q: (18419)

Hi CAIG,
I purchased a case of D5 a year or so ago. I just started to use one of the last cans and the sprayer is starting to drip. It doesn’t spray like the other ones.
Please advise?

Regards,
Don
