Maintaining External Security Cameras

Maintaining outdoor security cameras is essential to ensure they function properly and provide reliable surveillance of your property. Here are some tips for maintaining outdoor security cameras:

Clean the lenses: Over time, dirt, dust, and other debris can accumulate on the camera lenses, which can affect their clarity and visibility. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe the lenses and keep them clean.

CAIG’s optical-grade microfiber cloth is a perfect fit for this step of maintenance.

Check for damage: Regularly inspect your outdoor security cameras for any signs of damage, such as cracks or chips. If you notice any damage, replace the camera or have it repaired as soon as possible.

Check the wiring: Make sure that the wiring for your outdoor security cameras is properly connected and not damaged. Damaged wiring can affect the camera’s performance and potentially cause it to stop working altogether.  Use DeoxIT® D Series products on ALL the metal connections (BNC, ethernet, batteries, power, etc.) to make sure they are clean, connectivity is maximized and the connector surfaces are lubricated and protected.  https://caig.com/deoxit-d-series/

Cameras and equipment exposed to the elements: May require the DeoxIT® D-Series or DeoxIT® L260DNp grease. Outdoor camera and equipment connections can oxidize and corrode more quickly, especially in high-humidity environments. Battery-powered cameras (Arlo, Ring, Nest, etc.) are becoming more and more popular these days and are even more susceptible to intermittent issues.

See the video link below. When possible, consider using protective covers or enclosures to protect the cameras from rain, snow, and extreme temperatures.  Depending on the severity, use the DeoxIT® D-Series or L260DNp grease.
